I recently had the pleasure to hang out with Sarah & Nate and take some pictures of them in preparation for their upcoming wedding. I can’t tell you how easy they were to photograph. They were just so at ease with each other (& with me for that matter). It’s pretty obvious from the photos that they just look at each other in a special way. That’s not something a photographer can coach. Sometimes it’s just better to get out of the way & let the magic happen.
By the way, Sarah‘s an amazing hair stylist & make up artist. You should absolutely get ahold of her for your hair & make up needs.

These last photos are a little special. They represent the first time shooting a client on film. I think it’s something I’m really going to enjoy doing from time to time. They were shot with a Hasselblad 503cm (thanks Rick!) & Kodak c-41 film with either a 50mm f/4 or 100mm f/3.5 lens. I do love the square format the Hassie produces for portraits as well as some personal art projects I hope to find time for. Thanks to the great folks at R&R Custom Color for processing & scanning the film.

During Easter weekend we headed over to the other side of the mountains & had the pleasure of shooting Sara & Matt’s engagement photos. The weather was iffy at best, but it was still far better than the previous visit we had, where it rained the entire time—at least this time there were times when the sky wasn’t dumping on us.
For this session we drove up to Boulevard Park in Bellingham and were able to get a few shots before the rain started. We warmed up for a few minutes in Woods Coffee (An outstanding place that was packed with people. The hot chocolate was great & I understand the coffee is as well). When it became clear the rain wasn’t stopping we decided to head over to Sara & Matt’s wedding venue, The Bellingham Cruise Terminal to check it out. It’s a very cool space with an amazing view of Puget Sound.
Matt & Sara were so laid back and a pleasure to work with (not surprised at all) and so at ease with each other and me. I think/hope that comes across in the photos.

Calvin just turned 2 and his parents thought it was a good idea to get some photos taken of him as well as some of their family. The entire time I was editing these photos I kept finding myself holding back the laughter since Calvin is such a cute & expressive kid. How can that joy not be contagious. From seeing the moon in the daylight sky to blowing out the candles on the birthday cake. Every photo was a different face—and I think it’s great.
Thanks to Kelsey who came along and helped a bunch. Click the thumbnails to see the photos…

#5: Columbia River Gorge
Not really happy with one of the stitches, but it was tough to see because the sun was shining directly on the screen, and I like it overall.
#6: Westport Bowl
Good times.
