As a dad with 3 girls, one of my favorite parts of shooting a wedding is photographing how the kids deal with a long wedding day. They run the extremes of what everybody is feeling throughout the day. When most adults keep their emotion in check to some extent, kids just react to the day. Whether they’re bored, happy, angry, or playful, it shows. That makes it fun for me—even when they’re a little shy.

I’m sitting at Sea-Tac Airport en route to sunny (or at least warm) Hawaii for Sara & Matt’s wedding. The escape from Spokane couldn’t have come at a better time since it’s about to get heaps more snow.

Here are photos from Courtney’s “maternity” session. I put maternity in quotes since I don’t shoot traditional maternity portraits, but treat it more like a regular portrait session where the relationship between the family members is featured along with the bump. I think of it as more of a celebration of that time in their lives rather than a time to get close up photos of the belly.

This was an extra special session because Courtney’s a photographer herself. I always enjoy being able to talk shop while shooting. It didn’t matter much that the day was about as gray as could be & we had to dodge a few raindrops.

Congrats on the new addition guys! That’s one lucky little baby.

I’m happy to post some photos from a recent family session. This time it’s the Hopkins family!

We hung out at Manito Park for a little while & had some fun walking around & getting some fun pictures. Frequent visitors might recognize Ana from having helped me photograph Betsy & Chad’s wedding recently. She does some pretty fine photography work on her own. It’s always a little more nerve-racking to photograph a photographer simply because they know all the tricks. Fortunately, I think these ones turned out ok. ;)
