It’s not very often you get to shoot the wedding of someone you babysat. But that’s the case with this one. I remember Spencer when he was a rambunctious little guy who wanted to talk about nothing other than baseball. I must be getting old because now that kid went & got married & I think we barely even discussed the current horrors of the Mariners. In other words, it was pretty cool to be able to photograph Spencer & Tara’s wedding. Not only that, Since Spencer & I share a few cousins I got to hang out with Emma & Deonna a little too.
I don’t think there’s much I can say that the photos don’t other than the wedding took place at one of my favorite places on earth, Tacoma’s Point Defiance (I think I’ve mentioned that a few times before)! I loved the uniqueness of the whole day. The orange & gray colors were perfect. I love Converse shoes & the fact that they matched Spencer’s tie & even the wallpaper in his room was a nice touch.
Then there’s the Donuts. Mmmm, donuts as Homer would say. Spencer & Tara met while she was in line buying donuts for her class so they’re a pretty important part of their relationship (I wish I had a reason, any reason, to like donuts like that). These donuts were brilliantly good & they were specially prepared for the bride & groom by Legendary Doughnuts.
Since this was the third of four weddings that weekend (& the only one west of the mountains) we didn’t have time to shoot the “day after session” the day after their wedding. So we’ll call it a “week after” session since I had a Seattle wedding the next weekend. We decided to meet up in downtown Tacoma & hang around the Museum of Glass. I loved the challenge of trying to take unique portraits in a location that’s so loved by photographers. I’ll let you decide whether I succeeded or not. Regardless, we had a blast & these two super-photogenic subjects were a great inspiration.

How about another engagement session blog post. This time it’s Katie & Justin.
By Spokane’s bravest, it’s obvious that it’s a play on Justin’s occupation as a firefighter (we shot most of these at his station) but that could apply to Katie too since she’s reading this while on a medical mission in Guatemala. In the short time I got to hang out with these two it was obvious that the world will be a much better place with these two together. Watch out.
In case it’s not obvious, I had an outstanding time photographing these two who are both complete naturals in front of the camera. It’s not every day you get to use the fire station as a backdrop.

I figured I should blog a couple of engagement sessions since I still shoot them in between all of the weddings. I’ve had to stop blogging everything I shoot out of sheer lack of time, but as a consolation, I’m still blogging every wedding.
I met up with Patsy & Kevin on Kevin’s boyhood friend’s amazing property & we wandered around taking pictures as the light went from great to amazing. How happy do you thing I was when I saw the pond & row boat? I’m thinking with a little work, this place would be a great venue for weddings (I’ve certainly seen worse). I’m thinking ceremonies in front of the barn or in the field & receptions in the barn. What do you think?

This one is a little different because I’m starting the photos off with some engagement photos since I didn’t have a chance to post them previously. Since they both flew in for the wedding, the only chance we had to take them was a few days before the actual wedding. We had a great time & only extended it a few days later when I was able to photograph their wedding at the gorgeous Beacon Hill in Spokane. We were lucky enough to avoid the weather disasters this year’s been famous for & endure the few sprinkles & have a beautiful outdoor wedding.
One of the highlights has to have been the s’mores station at the fire pit. I’m sure this equation is just as assured as gravity: melted giant marshmallows + graham crackers(kids) = great times(great photos).
