Spokane Family Portrait Photographer: Joanna, the kids, & pups

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Continuing my run of family photo sessions is a family who braved the wind and ventured out with me to try to find a little bit of fall left in the face of winter. We had a great time getting these and even the dogs sat still for a few seconds—just long enough to hit the shutter button. It was strange being at the Finch Arboretum the middle of the day when nobody was there. I’m used to seeing it packed with people.

As we were getting packed up, a few people started to come around. So, like usual, I also snapped a couple of shots of 3 sisters (it wasn’t too tough since I’m pretty used to taking pictures of 3 sisters) who were hanging out at the park with their mom.

Kelsey came along to help, but mostly ended up playing with the twins, Marissa & Sierra, which was just fine.

Check ‘em out…

Family Portraits: Marini Family

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

A couple of weeks back we  were able to make a weekend trip back to Tacoma and while we were there I had the opportunity to take some family photos of my wife’s brother and his family.

Of course western Washington decided to set all kinds of rain records that weekend so we had to just go for it and hope for the best. I spent the morning drooling (and buying) at Glazer’s Camera Store in Seattle (the likes of which Spokane will never know). While my brother Travis & I were in Seattle, it was beautiful—unfortunately it was the only sun we saw all weekend.

Once we got started with the session we were driving around the south Puget Sound trying to chase the lighter color clouds so we could attempt to stay dry for some outside photos. We ended up at a park street corner with trees. We got some great shots before the cold got to be too much for the little ones and headed to the cars. As soon as our doors closed the downpour started skies emptied like a fire hose trying to put out a forest fire.

Then we headed back to their home for the “studio-type” photos. We had fun playing around and getting the kids’ personalities captured. It was much more relaxed for everyone since the likelihood of death by drowning was far smaller.

Spokane Family Portrait Photographer: Stevenson & Van Voorhis Families

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

I met the Stevenson family when I was out photographing a family at the Finch Arboretum. I saw a dad trying to get a family portrait with a tripod & timer. Since I’ve done that with only mediocre results so many times in the past, I offered to grab a shot with their camera. Then after meeting some more people around the park I wandered by the family again and got some shots with my camera. I was happy to email the photo to them.

So I was pleased when Shawn (dad) asked me to take pictures of his family along with their cousins visiting from Arkansas. We got together at Manito Park and got as much as we could before the cold got to be too much.

Special thanks goes to Michael for helping with this session as well as Sadie Stevenson (the oldest cousin) for keeping her cousins entertained and smiling for the camera. She also took a picture (the last photo in this post of her cousin riding on his dad’s shoulders) which is good enough to include in this post as well as deliver. Great job Sadie!

Spokane Wedding Photographer: Brandi & Logan

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

An outdoor wedding. On Halloween. In Northern Idaho. What could go wrong with that? A lot is what I was thinking, but I figured if the bride was going to be in a strapless gown I probably wouldn’t have much to complain about. A week before the wedding the forecast was calling for high temps of 40 degrees. The day before called for warmer temps (50 degrees) but rain—yay! However, none of that turned out to be true and a long as the wind stayed relatively calm it was a beautiful day for an outdoor wedding. We even had visitors throughout the day in the way of the brides favorite little guys—ladybugs.

As you can see from the photos it was a laid back affair and designed around the whimsical personality (i.e. fairy wings!) of the couple of the day . I have said so many times and will say again, I have the best clients. They were a ton of fun to work with and I think we got some great images.

Many thanks to Taylor (who’s now en route to Mexico for a 6 month mission trip—good luck Taylor!) for helping out with assisting as well as getting some great photos herself.

Spokane Family Portrait Photographer: Lippoldt Family

Here’s another recent family session we had at the beautiful Finch Arboretum in west Spokane. The fall colors exploded in the last few weeks and gave us a great palette for portrait backgrounds. Plus it’s always fun to throw around some fallen leaves.

Fun stuff. The kids were shy at first but warmed up pretty quickly when they got to help take pictures of the rest of their family—I have no idea what photographers did before LCD screens on the back of their cameras.

If you still need family portraits in time for Christmas, time is running out, but there is still enough time to get them done. Just let me know.

First Look: Brandi & Logan’s Wedding

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

Just wanted to quickly get up a couple of shots from yesterday’s wedding.

The first is an explanation of the hilarious tweet from the bride minutes before the ceremony, “In the shower with the photographers on my wedding day. Awesome.”

The second is one of my favorite detail shot’s I’ve ever taken.

Be on the lookout for more in the coming weeks!
