Housekeeping: New Design

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

As you hopefully noticed there’s been a bit of a change to the website’s design. Until now, I lived with a blog design that was fine on its own but looked completely different from my other websites. As a designer I have always recognized that as a problem, but I finally took a little time to make the necessary changes. I’m so excited that I now have continuity between the splash page (which I also redesigned recently), the portfolio site, and this blog

I’m still tweaking some things, but please take a look around and let me know if you see anything that looks amiss please let me know. Thanks!

Street Portraits in Downtown Spokane

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Last night we had our Inland NW Photographers Assembly (INPA) meeting where it’s always nice to talk to people who enjoy the minutiae  of photography as much as I do. Afterward a few of us headed  in to downtown Spokane for a photo safari. We started taking pictures of the normal downtown things (hence the trash can hand warming shot). We were across the street from the bus depot and I saw some interesting people hanging out so I grabbed Shane Savage (who volunteered to be my voice activated light stand) and headed over there to make some portraits.

LIke my business card says, I shoot people. I really enjoy the interactions with people, asking strangers if I can make a portrait of them is a lot of fun for me. When the results are great, I enjoy it all the better.

I wasn’t sure what I had but when I got them on the computer I was really pleased with how they turned out. Hopefully you’ll think so too.

Big thanks to Shane, Jon, Lacey, & Tyson for the invite and a really fun evening

As usual, click the thumbnails to see the photos.

P.S. The officer was fine with us taking pictures, even of him, and didn’t try to stop us at all. He and his partner even did some joking around with us.

Spokane Wedding Photographer: Kylie & Brock

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

We had the opportunity to cover Kylie & Brock’s wedding a few weeks back. The day started with a run to the candy store to pick up some candy cigars and ended seeing off the incredibly beautiful bride and handsome groom off on their honeymoon.

We started at the bride and groom’s houses getting shots of them getting ready. After helping to calm down the house and reminding them that being a few minutes later wasn’t a problem and promising them that the ceremony wouldn’t start without the bride, the bride and I hopped in to her grandparent’s motorhome and headed to Farragut State Park. It was a beautiful location for a wedding and the morning thunder showers stayed away and let us enjoy the beautiful day.

The reception was a party. Everyone had a blast—me included. The dance floor was packed the entire night. Not much else needs to be said other than that.

We captured some great moments—which means some great photos. Hopefully you’ll agree.

Thanks to my brother and sister in law who came over from Tacoma to help me shoot. I couldn’t have done it without them.

Now for the photos. Click on the thumbnails to see the full size images.

Wedding Preview: Colette & Jeremy

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

This weekend we had the opportunity to shoot Colette & Jeremy’s wedding on Deer Lake. It was a blast. It was obvious they are a great couple and are surrounded by people who care greatly for them.

Many thanks to Shane Savage of Savage Unlimited for his help at the wedding.

I’m still putting finishing touches on the last wedding, but there were some great photos from this one that I wanted to tease. Stay tuned for a full post on both weddings.

Spokane Portrait Photographer: Sarah & Tras

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

I had the opportunity to (finally:) take Sarah & Tras’s photos recently. An attractive couple who eloped a while back and didn’t have the opportunity to have wedding pictures taken, called me up for a session.

We had a lot of fun getting these photos. It was great and got better as the sun went down. Fortunately there was a full moon and some moonlit clouds. Along with the barn (which we were denied permission to use), cornfield, and a great sunset  there were some really interesting and unique backgrounds.

They were a great couple that were up for trying about anything I’d throw at them. Some of my favorite shots were even suggested by Sarah. I joked that I was going to hire her to come up with poses for my clients. Once we got the lights out, we could have shot all night.

Here are the photos. Like usual, click the thumbnails to see them full sized.
