Photoshoot: Chris & her boys

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

Gina’s friend Chris wanted to have some pictures taken of herself for her new husband as well as get some photos of her & her boys so she hired me to do the job. The shoot went great. They all seemed to have fun (even the boys who weren’t too excited beforehand about getting their pictures taken). Most importantly they loved the final results (of course, I did as well). Here are a few of the photos.

Let me know if you’d like to schedule a time to get your pictures taken. Whether they be family, seniors, weddings, kids, or no occasion at all.

Special thanks to Reagan who was my assistant on this shoot.

Daily iPhone Challenge Photos #42–48

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

Here are this week’s daily iPhone challenge photos. The titles of the photos show up when you view the larger versions. In some cases they  hint as to what I was thinking when I chose that photo for the day.

I’ve been getting a lot of requests for an explanation of how I get some of the effects I do so I’m getting a post together to show my process.

INPA logos

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

I’m a member of a local photography group called the Inland Northwest Photographers Assembly and we were in desperate need of some branding that would allow us to market ourselves. In addition to photography, my ‘other’ job is working as a graphic designer so I figured I could help.

I designed the series of logos so they would create a strong brand for marketing the INPA that would work in a variety of situations. I don’t think this is an either/or situation, all of these logos could be used in circumstances specific to their strengths. Each of the logos has a description about when it would best be used. I personally prefer black, but if the group came to a consensus on a different color, that’s easy to change.

I showed them to the photogs that showed up at today’s meeting and the response was great.

1.This is the main logo. Used in most circumstances. Can be used on bumper stickers, apparel, etc.

2. This is the first choice of logo when the full INPA title is required. Note that the text is quite small but works fine in larger applications.

3. Specialty photo* fill logo. Can be customized for specific uses such as portrait, wildlife, landscape, etc. when promoting INPA. Should be used judiciously and always with the thin black stroke.

*Special thanks to Steven King for use of the parrot photo.

4. This is the logo used when the full INPA name is required but the size precludes using logo 2. Scales down better than logo 2.

Engagement Photos: Kylie & Brock

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Later this summer I’ll be the photographer at the wedding of these two which will take place outside at Farragut State Park in northern Idaho. It would be an understatement to say that I’m looking forward to it, though probably not as much as Kylie & Brock.

These photos were taken in the span of a couple of hours in Coeur d’Alene. Obviously, it doesn’t get much easier when photographing couples than when they’re 1) really in love and 2) easy on the camera lens. As you can tell from these photos, these guys fit both of those criteria. We had lots of fun getting these shots and they are a nice prelude to what will be a great wedding.

Special thanks to Gina for assisting as a voice activated light stand on this shoot. :)

As usual, click the photos to view them larger.

Daily iPhone Challenge Photos

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

As you may have noticed, the updates to my blog have slowed down a bit with regard to the iPhone challenge photos. I’m still taking the photos every day and uploading them to my Flickr account (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mattshumate/). The problem was that I noticed that a few times my entire front page was being taken up with iPhone challenge entries. While I enjoy the iPhone photos and the challenge it is, I don’t want it to bump my more interesting/important entries so quickly from the front page of the blog.

My solution is that I’ll create a weekly (or close to weekly) post that will include all of the recent iPhone challenge photos together. That gives you the benefit of being able to see them and helps me keep my blog a little more organized. Of course, if you’d like to still see them without waiting, feel free to head over to Flickr. So without further adieu, here’s the photos.

As usual, Click to enlarge.
